This past Sunday was my big choir concert at school. Months of preparation and anticipation. Lots of build-up, and it was all over with pretty quickly, and went off without a hitch. I thought this week would be a breeze for me, since my concert is over and done. I was wrong. Here is what I've been doing for the last 72 hours...
-Wednesday after school, I picked up Reese and drove to an appliance store to meet Kevin to look at some ovens and microwaves. We actually had a very nice salesman who was very helpful, and we found something perfect. He set us up with a cabinet maker for the next day.
-Then we decide on a whim to go to a nearby Kia dealership, as we have been seriously considering getting a new Sorento.
-We spend 45 minutes at the dealership and never drive a car. Apparently the sales lady was trying very hard to find a car on the lot that met my wish list to a tee (but what car on a sales lot ever perfectly matches?), but in doing so, left us with a tired, hungry infant, and two parents rapidly approaching their patience limit.
-Left the Kia dealership without ever driving a car.
-Thursday morning-my car is making a horrible noise in the garage as I'm trying to pull out and go to work. I decide not to drive it, because it actually seems pretty un-driveable, and we have to regroup for the morning. Perfect timing. I need to sell my car, and it breaks. Can you help us out here, Lord?
-Kevin takes me to work and drops me off. I have no car.
-The lady from the Kia dealership calls, and feels badly about our experience and wants to bring me a car to try out for a few days. Thank you Lord, for answering our prayer! Talk about divine intervention.
-Kevin and I talk during the day and decide that I am going to pick him up from work, and that we will go home, and that he will drive my car to the repair place, and I will follow him.
-We get 100 yards down the street and the car has died twice.
-We return home.
-I drive Kevin back to work. That was pointless!
-I pick up Reese after work, and go get some groceries.
-The cabinet guy comes, and is quite friendly. He is a jolly old guy and I think he is going to do a nice job installing our new appliances.
-Reese bites me on the shoulder while we are standing in the kitchen talking to him. I yell, "Oww! Reese just bit me!" The cabinet guy finds this very funny for some reason.
-Wake up this morning knowing I had a long day ahead of me, because my schedule for the day is packed.
-I drive Reese to daycare this morning. Usually Kevin does this, but he stays home and waits for the tow truck to arrive. He follows the tow truck with my VW to the repair shop.
-I leave daycare with a lump in my throat.
-I get to school and teach two classes. I spend the middle part of my day, hashing out details on the phone with Kevin about buying a new car. Can we afford it? Should we trade in my VW? Should we get everything fixed that is wrong with the car, or just some of it? We are both completely overwhelmed and stressed by noon.
-I spend the rest of my break making a budget and going over bank statements.
-I teach two more classes.
-I spend more time on the phone talking to Kevin about the car. If you know us well, you know we take forever to make decisions.
-I leave school and go buy dog food at Petsmart.
-I drive to teach my piano lesson.
-My student is acting sleepy and uninterested so I leave the lesson early. Weird.
-I kill time at Loft while waiting to pick up the Pizza I have ordered for my students. They are singing at a Christmas party tonight.
-Kevin calls and he is still at work, so we decide that I will pick up Reese, take her back to work with me, and he will pick her up there, before I have to take my kids to sing.
-I pick up Reese.
-I go to Dominos to pick up my pizza order.
-I drive back to school. I have to move all my things, plus Reese in to the school suburban, which is parked on the north side of campus. I drive the suburban to the south side of campus where my classroom is.
-Somehow I manage to carry my purse, three pizza boxes, and Reese in her carseat from the car to my classroom.
-Five minutes later, Kevin shows up to pick up Reese.
-I strap her back in her carseat and take her back up to the parking lot. We make the trade.
-I eat pizza with my highschoolers and listen to some music. I spy in on the ballet dress rehearsal and clap for them.
-We leave for the party around 8:00.
-Arrive at the party. Sing. Snap a group picture. Head home.
-Get back to school. The south gate is locked. Darn!
-Head to the north gate. Drop my kids off. Have to run back to my classroom, because Kevin wants the leftover pizza.
-Kids are all picked up, now I have to go exchange the suburban for the Sorento.
-I change cars, and move all my things over. I realize my phone is nowhere to be found. I realize my phone may be on the floor in my classroom where I set it down to grab the pizza.
-DARN!
-I drive back to the other side of campus. Again.
-I run through the sprinklers to get to my classroom and find my phone on the floor.
-I run back to the car, through the sprinklers again.
-I drive home.
-Whew!
I feel like no one on earth can be as busy and hectic as I have been. I know this is not true, but I would hate to be them, because I am about to collapse. In fact, that's what I'm about to do.
-Off to bed. Hopefully never to repeat this 72-hour span of craziness ever again. :)
Oh my goodness!!! Here's to hoping that you have a PERFECT weekend!!
